AMS’ Journey to Net Zero

AMS Embarks on Net Zero Journey

In a significant step towards becoming a sustainable business, AMS has begun its journey to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. This ambitious goal aligns with the growing global movement towards a greener future, and AMS recognizes the importance of companies taking action to reduce their environmental impact.

What is Net Zero?

Net zero refers to achieving a balance between the greenhouse gas emissions a company produces and the emissions it removes from the atmosphere. This delicate balance can be attained through a combination of reducing emissions at the source, such as using renewable energy, and offsetting remaining emissions with carbon capture projects.

Why Net Zero Matters

Companies like AMS play a crucial role in combating climate change. By transitioning to net zero practices, businesses can significantly reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a healthier planet for future generations.

Making it Net Zero: A Collaborative Journey

AMS understands that achieving net zero is a journey, not a destination. The company has partnered with the South West Manufacturing Advisory Service (SWMAS) on the “Make It Net Zero” program. Through this collaborative initiative, AMS has completed a verified carbon footprint benchmark for 2023, establishing a baseline measurement against which future progress can be tracked.

Taking Action: Our Initial Steps

The “Make It Net Zero” program has equipped AMS with a roadmap for achieving its ambitious goals. The company has already begun implementing several key initiatives to reduce its scope 1 and 2 emissions, which originate from direct operations and purchased electricity. These efforts include:

  • Reducing energy consumption: Encouraging employees to switch off lights and machinery when not in use.
  • Transitioning to renewable energy: Shifting to a 100% renewable green electricity tariff.
  • Electrifying the fleet: Replacing company vehicles with electric alternatives.
  • Prioritizing waste reduction: Implementing improved recycling practices and striving for zero waste to landfill.
  • Offsetting remaining emissions: Utilizing high-quality, verified offsetting schemes.

Looking Ahead: Scope 3 and the Net Zero Pledge

Beyond its immediate actions, AMS is also exploring ways to tackle scope 3 emissions, which arise indirectly through a company’s value chain, including purchased materials and components.

AMS’s journey to net zero is a testament to the company’s commitment to a sustainable future. By taking these initial steps and collaborating with key partners, AMS is setting a positive example for the business community and contributing to a greener world.
