Project Overview

Client: EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Ltd

Location: Hinkley Point B

Moisture monitoring in reactor gas is a safety-significant function, and as nuclear stations extend their operating lives, the challenge is not simply replacing ageing instrumentation, but developing a system that can meet evolving safety case requirements while remaining maintainable, adaptable and practical to operate. AMS Nuclear delivers complete safety-critical EC&I solutions from concept and substantiation through to manufacture, qualification and commissioning, combining detailed systems engineering with the practical experience needed to integrate complex modifications into operational nuclear facilities.

At Hinkley Point B (EDF Energy), evolving Boiler Tube Safety Case and Vessel Overpressure Protection Equipment (VOPE) requirements created the need to upgrade the Moisture in Reactor Gas (MIRG) Measurement & Sampling Systems. AMS Nuclear designed, substantiated, manufactured, tested, installed and commissioned eight Category B, Class 2 systems, incorporating improved sample conditioning and instrumentation, revised alarm and control logic, seismic and EMC qualification and a more flexible architecture to support through-life management. All eight systems were successfully commissioned and entered operational service, providing Hinkley Point B with a fully substantiated solution designed to support continued operation and future lifecycle requirements.
