Decommissioning changes a site faster than its infrastructure can keep up, and safety-critical communications, the site-wide PA that carries operational messages, fire alarms and incident alerts, often run through areas due for demolition. AMS Nuclear replaces these with flexible, radio-based systems that operate independently of demolition zones and keep coverage live throughout the changeover, reusing sound legacy assets where it makes sense.
At Hinkley Point A (NRS, formerly Magnox), a decommissioning site, elements of the existing PA system sat within the Turbine Hall area scheduled for removal. AMS Nuclear surveyed and refurbished usable legacy wireless equipment, reverse-engineered assets where documentation was missing, and delivered a distributed digital radio-based PA system over a 17-week programme with no loss of communication coverage.
