As a Project Manager, you will have day-to-day accountability for the successful delivery of assigned engineering projects. You will lead the delivery activity, maintain control of scope, programme, cost, quality and risk, and protect AMS Nuclear’s commercial and contractual position.

This is a hands-on role in a growing SME. You will personally create the structure and momentum needed to deliver: understand the complete project outcome, maintain reliable controls, obtain information and decisions, lead communications and follow actions through. Project Coordinators may support you, but you remain accountable for the result.

• Own the delivery strategy, scope, programme, budget, forecast, risk, quality and close-out for your projects.
• Build and maintain a practical understanding of the contract, technical scope, deliverables, interfaces, acceptance requirements and assumptions.
• Create and use effective project controls, including plans, action and decision logs, risk and issue information, change control, cost forecasts and progress reporting.
• Lead project meetings and act as the principal day-to-day client contact, ensuring communications are clear, timely and appropriately authorised.
• Coordinate engineering, workshop, supply-chain and client activity. Test reported progress against objective evidence and keep a forward-looking view of dependencies and decisions.
• Identify and manage change, risk, delay and non-conformance early. Escalate with clear facts, likely implications and recommended actions.
• Manage project commercial performance, including cost, forecast, invoicing, variations and cash collection. Do not accept commitments beyond your authority.
• Support and develop Project Coordinators, contribute to bids and handovers and help improve the way AMS Nuclear delivers projects.

• You can explain the full project outcome, major interfaces, risks and next decisions, not merely the immediate task.
• You provide a reliable, current picture of delivery, cost, risk and change. Actions and commitments are recorded and followed through.
• You communicate confidently and constructively with technical teams, suppliers and clients, including when information is unclear or conversations are difficult.
• You recognise technical, programme and commercial implications early, seek specialist input when needed and protect AMS Nuclear from inadvertent commitments.
• You are trusted for sound judgement, accuracy, personal ownership and delivery focus.

You will bring demonstrable experience of personally delivering and controlling engineering or technical projects, including programme management, client communication and project financial information. A project-management qualification is welcome, but practical capability and the way you work matter just as much.

• Technical and commercial confidence: comfortable engaging with drawings, specifications, manufacturing or assembly processes and technical specialists. You understand budgets, forecasts, variations and the importance of protecting AMS Nuclear’s commercial position.
• Project control and ownership: you create practical controls, spot gaps and inconsistencies, and take personal responsibility for moving work forward.
• Clear communication and judgement: you ask questions, challenge ambiguity constructively and escalate early, while recognising the limits of your authority and competence.
• Organisation and resilience: you are collaborative and well organised in a busy SME environment, able to prioritise competing demands without losing control of detail.

You will report to the Senior Project Manager and work closely with Project Coordinators, Engineering, Workshop, Supply Chain, Finance and Business Development. The role is based at Bridgwater Gateway, North Petherton, with travel to client and supplier sites as required. The contracted working week is 37.5 hours.
