Project Coordinator

As a Project Coordinator, you will help deliver engineering projects safely, accurately and on time. You will coordinate project information, plans, actions, communications and financial administration, supporting Project Managers and helping keep delivery activity under control.

This is an active, hands-on role rather than a passive administrative post. You will obtain missing information, keep project controls current, prepare accurate records, follow actions through and raise uncertainty early.

It is a developmental role for someone who wants to build the judgement, technical understanding and delivery experience needed to progress into a Project Manager role. With appropriate support, you may also coordinate smaller, lower-risk projects in your own right.

• Build and maintain project plans, action logs, risk and issue registers, deliverable trackers and meeting records for assigned work.
• Obtain reliable progress information from engineering, workshop and supply-chain colleagues; test it against the plan and highlight omissions, conflicts or emerging delays.
• Prepare for, attend and record internal, client and supplier meetings; issue actions with clear owners and dates, and pursue completion.
• Provide concise, accurate project-status information to Project Managers, management and clients, using the agreed level of authority and review.
• Coordinate project administration, including enquiries, order set-up, time-booking information, invoicing support, accruals, payment applications and project records.
• Support bid and handover activity, including outline programmes, milestone payment plans, quotations and collation of delivery information.
• Coordinate smaller, defined projects where assigned, escalating technical, programme, financial, commercial or contractual issues promptly.

• Colleagues can rely on project information, actions and records being accurate, current and easy to find.
• Meetings result in clear actions and follow-up; important matters do not disappear between meetings.
• You see beyond the immediate request, ask sensible questions and escalate before a small uncertainty becomes a delivery problem.
• You communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, clients and suppliers, making external commitments only with the required authority.
• You steadily develop the technical, commercial and delivery experience needed for progression to Project Manager.

You will bring experience in a coordination, administration, engineering, manufacturing or project environment. A technical or project qualification is welcome but not essential: transferable experience, aptitude and the way you work matter most.

• Organisation and ownership: highly organised and detail-conscious, with personal responsibility for preparing records, maintaining controls and following work through rather than waiting to be chased.
• Communication: an excellent written and verbal communicator who listens, asks clear questions, confirms understanding and is comfortable following up with colleagues, clients and suppliers.
• Judgement and learning: able to recognise limits of authority, seek support early and remain curious about technical work and project delivery.
• Approach and values: calm, positive and collaborative in a busy SME environment, able to prioritise competing demands and contribute to the AMS values of doing the right thing, communicating to succeed, can-do ownership, better every time and one team.

You will report to the Senior Project Manager and work closely with Project Managers, Engineering, Workshop, Supply Chain, Finance and Business Development. The role is based at Bridgwater Gateway, North Petherton, with travel to client and supplier sites as required. The contracted working week is 37.5 hours.
